When I left the comfort of the Missoula Valley to head South to the desert, a pang of regret and the itch of second guesses hit me as I passed East out of the Hellgate canyon for the last time in awhile. After two days of roundabout driving and countless milligrams of caffeine, I found myself in a coffeehouse in Salt Lake last night to meet my couchsurfing host. Today, I took the recommendation of the guys @wasatchtouring to ride the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and drop into a downhill track appropriately named Bobsled.
As I crested the climb, I looked out over the valley. Thin mountain air washed over my sweaty brow and Arrowleaf Balsamroot twitched with the breeze. Snowy couilars basked on the horizon.
Though I may have left my home range for now, I have not lost sight of the steady chaos of the Rockies. Their welcoming mystery and the silent, noble confidence in the wild that is possessed by these mountains has possessed me as well.
Time to go exploring.
