Freehub Lifestyle Favorites: Patagonia Boaris 2.0

The factors that make up a good shoe are simple: solid support, dreamy comfort, feather-level weight and, of course, style. However, as basic a combination as that may sound, few shoes are able to strike that perfect balance.

Then there’s the Patagonia Boaris 2.0.

The Boaris 2.0 encompasses all of these "must have" characteristics—and then keeps on going. Patagonia has always had a reputation for the highest-quality gear; they are also one of the rare companies known for responsible business ethics as well. In an industry where materials and manufacturing often come with a high environmental cost, Patagonia has taken the lead to show that performance and awareness can coexist to make a damn good product.

The Boaris 2.0 is a perfect example. Its sturdy and protective insoles and midsoles are made with recycled materials, meaning its footprint—both literally and environmentally—is an impressive one, both comfortable and responsible. In addition to that footprint (or lack thereof), the Boaris’s stitched outsole reduces the amount of solvents and adhesives that many other shoes depend upon. With the Boaris 2.0, you can expect the basics of a great shoe; you can also expect the basics of great morals.

For myself, who spends a great deal of time on my feet, comfort is as vital as performance. Patagonia designed the Boaris 2.0 with a medium width body, medium arch and a full toe box, and—with my wide foot and taller arch—I found that they fit me well. Whether walking the streets or running through the woods, the shoes seemed to handle (and enhance) my endurance in every day activities, whatever they may be. With the Boaris 2.0, Patagonia has created a lightweight and breathable mountain sneaker that can take on numerous activities and look good doing so. They were so comfortable that, after excelling for an entire year of hard use, I actually ordered another pair—a testament to both their durability and performance.

Take a look for yourself and see if the Boaris 2.0 fits your lifestyle—and environmental footprint—as well as it does mine.
