Dan Mumford | Volume Six Cover Artist

Freehub Magazine is proud to announce a collaboration with London, UK-based illustrator Dan Mumford for the cover art of volume six. Integrating illustrations into our covers has been an essential element of our aim for timeless style since day one. At times, the artwork is transformative, bringing a whole new meaning to our cover photograph, while other times it is a small accent, reminding us of the power of imagination.

Gone Fishing - Jaws inspired screen print.

We are confident that Dan will continue to help us bring our covers to life with his signature style of flowing lines, minute detail and subtle patterns. Drawing influence from comic books and 80s and 90s sci-fi movies, Dan’s portfolio contains everything from gory zombie scenes to nuclear destruction to black and white portraits, all with surreal sense that is more intriguing than unsettling. For his personal pieces though, Dan says he tends to draw more in the vicinity of “beautiful” rather than anything else.

Much of Dan’s work has been within the music industry for bands such as Trivium, Protest The Hero, The Black Dahlia Murder, A Day To Remember and Gallows. Some of Dan’s other recent commissioned work has been for the new release of the video game Assassins Creed: Unity, and the Ghost Busters’ 30th Anniversary.

We’re excited to see what Dan comes up with when we hand him the cover image of volume 6.1. An extra dose of creativity is something that we feel is always beneficial to mountain bike culture, let alone the world in general. Providing a platform for that creativity through our covers is one of the many ways we at Freehub Magazine try to make things just a little more interesting.
