If you walk off the grass into the woods at Clark Park at 3400 N Rockwell, you stumble upon something incredible: The Garden Jumps, a course of BMX dirt jumps located right in the City of Chicago and complete with three jump lines and a pump track with multiple routes.

I attended the grand opening back in 2010 and was excited to see adults and kids having fun together. The kids were the best part—watching them watch the older kids, and explore and test themselves. Plus, the jumps of some of the older kids and adults were exhilarating to watch. Check out a picture of my friend Dom, one of the organizers and original trail bosses.

On August 17, the Garden Jumps, in association with Clark Park and the Chicago Park District, is holding the second official Bike Park Jam. This year’s fundraising theme is ‘In Bloom’ and proceeds will keep the park maintained and free and open to everyone. Come down to try some tricks, watch the folks that do it well, and have some fun. Volunteers are needed for a variety of support duties.

“This is our second year of this event,” said Dom. “This year is going to be epic. We have bigger and more solid jumps and tons of fun things to do. Please come out and be a part of the fun and help spread the word about this amazing park.” The Garden is free, open to the public, and has terrain for all ages and skill levels.
